"First day at the apartment" rant

Got the keys for 144 Easton, here’s how the first day went…

So, my landlord gave us a ring of random keys. We found 4 for the front doors, 2 for the back, one for my half of the apartment and none for the other half. There are about 6 doors in that have locks but no keys, and about 10 extra random keys that fit nowhere. The deadlock on the front door is busted, too, so break in that way.

Mold covering the bathroom ceiling. Possibly black mold, which is toxic.

Both bedroom doors in the back half do not close. One doesn’t fit in the doorway, and the other is just busted.

Gaping holes in numerous walls… we spackled today, but most of the holes demand something much more than spackling. These are some serious holes that the last tenants must have worked hard to cover up.

We were promised an attic… it’s boarded up.

Did I mention we had to use a credit card to break into the front half because we weren’t given keys for it?

Refridgerator shelves are smashed. Also, the stove in the front half does not function.

Found 2 dime bags and a vial… also, a bag of trash still sitting in the house. Proof that he literally did not open the door before giving us the keys.

In some parts of the apartment, there is random wire sticking out of the wall. I don’t know how they hid this form us, either.

Many windows do not have screens, the kitchen window is broken.

Of course, I’m leaving out many many things because I don’t remember them. But we have photos of all of it and a complete list. Oh, and our thermostat is completely busted.

If we were flipping a house or something, I’d expect these kind of repairs. But this is an apartment that is supposed to be completely fixed by the landlord before I pay my first rent check tomorrow. So he had better get his ass in gear and call people, because as renters, it is not our job to make the place habitable. That’s why your last tenants payed a god damned security deposit. Take that $3000 and fix my living space.
